Dominican Republic 2027
Watch this First!
The Dominican Republic is known for its beaches, hospitality, and all-inclusive resorts, right? In this immersive 8-day program, you'll go beyond the typical tourist experience and engage with the island's vibrant history, rich culture, and complex socio-political landscape, all while enjoying the food, music, nature, and people that make this country so unforgettable.
We will visit and enter original Taino caves, sacred spaces where the island’s first peoples lived and created. We will also make our way to Samaná on the northern coast, where we’ll uncover the fascinating, little-known connection between Dominican history and American slavery, including stories of resilience and cultural survival. We will eat fresh sugar cane, taste amazing island fruits, meet national leaders, engage with locals, understand the impact of colonization, deepen our knowledge about the troubling conflict with Haiti, and experience truth first hand. Yes, there’s a beach day — and yes, it’s as beautiful as you’re imagining. Recharge your spirit with sun, learning, and community joy.
We will stand on the soil where history was made. Come with us to learn the powerful story of the Mirabal Sisters. These women were and continue to be icons of resistance against dictatorship, oppression, and patriarchal power. They are the inspiration behind the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Together, we engage in this exploration not as consumers of experiences but as active participants, with understanding and respect, honoring the voices and stories of the landscapes and cultures we are privileged to encounter.
As we experience all of this and more, we will process our learning through the Teach With Love L.O.V.E. Framework’s culturally responsive lens. We will also learn about antiracist concepts in real time, ready for application and practice. We will make sense of what we are seeing and experiencing, as we internalize the learning and then strategize to bring it back to our home lives. This program will be a powerful example of our motto “learning over luxury” as we build community with each other and these beautiful people.
Your Thought Leaders, Lorena Germán and Roberto Germán, are both Dominican and fluent Spanish speaking advocates, speakers, and educators.

For teachers, this is a revolutionary way of thinking about teaching in a classroom. Being immersed in a new culture and language provides a unique perspective, enhanced by our teacher framework. This structure helps you reflect on your experiences and integrate these values back into your classroom with students.
This approach is ideal, especially relevant in the current educational climate in the United States, where many educators struggle to remain in the profession. This rejuvenating experience will re-humanize learning for you, providing a deeper understanding of what it means to Lift Others' Voices Every day (L.O.V.E.). That's the essence of our framework.
You don't just learn a concept from a book; you live it out and practice it. During our program, there will be moments where we, as thought leaders, engaged participants with reflective questions: How do you see the application of the love framework in real-time?
This program is ideal for any location and is perfect for educators and leaders who want to remain in the field, offering not just a refreshing experience but also practical tools for classroom application.

Included in Booking:
Begin in Santo Domingo
Our journey opens in the Dominican Republic’s capital, where cobblestone streets and colonial architecture carry the weight of history. We’ll gather for our Teach With Love® workshop, grounding ourselves in the L.O.V.E. Framework and preparing to engage with what lies ahead. That evening, we’ll share our first community dinner, entering the week as learners, travelers, and companions.
Taino Heritage & Sacred Spaces
We’ll step into original Taino caves—sacred spaces where the island’s first peoples lived, created, and resisted. As we honor these sites, we’ll reflect together on what it means to learn directly from place and story.
Colonial & Socio-Political Roots
In Santo Domingo’s colonial zone, we’ll trace the legacies of colonization, walking the same ground that shaped today’s Dominican identity. Alongside national leaders and cultural voices, we’ll engage hard truths about history and conflict, particularly the deeply intertwined relationship with Haiti. We’ll pause for evening reflection, making space for personal insight and collective dialogue.
Journey to Samaná
Heading north, the land opens into lush mountains and coastal beauty. Here, history connects in unexpected ways: we’ll uncover the little-known ties between Dominican communities and the legacies of American slavery. Along the way, we’ll taste fresh sugar cane and vibrant island fruits—reminders of both abundance and exploitation.
Community Immersion in Samaná
In this northern region, we’ll meet with locals and community leaders, witnessing cultural survival and resilience in action. Afro-Dominican traditions will guide our learning, while music and community joy remind us of the power of celebration. Evening reflection will help us weave these experiences into our own practice.
Rest & Recharge
Yes, there’s a time at the beach. Yes, it’s as breathtaking as you’re imagining. This pause is more than leisure—it’s a chance to reflect, recharge, and consider how joy itself becomes resistance and renewal.
The Mirabal Sisters in Salcedo
We will stand on the soil where the Mirabal Sisters lived and fought, icons of resistance against dictatorship, oppression, and patriarchal power. Their courage continues to shape global conversations on gender justice, including the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Our reflection circle will center on courage, sacrifice, and the responsibility of remembrance.
Closing in Santo Domingo
Our final day brings us together one last time to process our learning through the L.O.V.E. Framework. We’ll name strategies for applying antiracist and culturally responsive practices back home, honoring our motto of learning over luxury. With gratitude and renewed purpose, we depart the island—carrying with us not just memories, but responsibility.
